Mobile review or is it my chat review???
Technology, awahid, blog, life January 18th, 2009
One of my friend, new to blog world pushed me to write this post. We were having a discussion on mobile phones and she asked few questions about my cell model and specifications, in reply I showed my love towards LG Shine. After sometime she shared a link… Which lead to her blog, she wrote a post based on my personal opinion and she quoted my chat as well. Oh My … I had mixed type of feeling while reading her post, I was bit angry and was smiling as well. I was angry because she had quoted me without my knowledge and her mobile reviews were based on only my personal opinion, which may lead to false conclusions. I was laughing because it seems very funny to quot a chat. It seems she was reviewing my chat more than a LG shine mobile. I am bit lazy type of person who always try to use less words and avoid long and endless conversation, thats why I shared the links to LG mobile specification. If she had told me before that she wanted to write a mobile review on LG shine I would have given a better help in this regard.
I like her style but I wanted to ask every couple of questions
If some one out of no where ask you something and write a blog on that.
How will you feel?
How will you react?
Is it ethical to write a blog on some ones chat without permission of that person?
Will you do anything like this in future?

Well, I read both of the posts and truly these are funny pieces of writing. I wont be throwing more commentary instead I would say about your questions.
1. About the feeling which may arise in such a situation to ME, depends totally on the content publicized. If its out of the box of privacy then it wont be bringing me any annoyed feeling. But a good practice would be if an indirect narration is referenced.
2. Definitely, the reaction would be harsh if the content is quoted in a scenario where I am unaware of about its citation or any other use. I might say something funny or nonsense without caring about anything just in friends, and if one is going to publicize that keeping me in dark then obviously its quite well annoying.
3. Ethical issues again relate to the content and the context. But in my opinion it wont be good to quote in such a way (though in her post, she probably didn’t want to spoil your repute but taken as fun. The approach is wrong) is not good. A good practice is to cite in a decent manner rather quoting hilarious statements.
4. Probably, I am not going to do so ever. Even I do then it wont be published for everyone. Privacy matters!
So, your questions are answered in my opinion.

@abid
Thanks for the comment.
I agree that its the content that matters.
You had pointed out that when we chat to friends we are bit careless and might say “something funny or nonsense”. keeping this in mind one should not quote the chat.

Oh no…i would definitely not take the whole thing in good humor. I always tell people if I’m saving my chat histories and one should DEFINITELY ask for permission before quoting it because maybe that was meant for your eyes only…maybe the person quoting it took it in a wrong sense or in a sense you didn’t mean it in…
If recently got quoted somewhere and I was VERY angry (not upset, just angry) that the person did not ask for permission. Its really insulting to find one’s name somewhere via an ‘incoming link’…

@sid Its not about minding your post. I hope you will be careful next time.
@specs Thanks for sharing your opinion, I agree that asking for permission is must.
@awais you are right when you are blogging the chat you should not mention the name because of the privacy issues.
