Scrum vs Lean Software Development Methodology

Technology, awahid 4 Comments »

Picture1Scrum and Lean are the methodologies used in agile software development. Scrum focuses on self organizing team and provides the framework for software development where as lean focuses more on process and optimization of process. They both aim on improving software development capabilities but their approach are different.

Some people might think that comparing scrum and lean is like “Apples to oranges” which is not true; if we look at different aspects of these methodologies we can compare them easily. Mathis compared these two methodologies on the basis of procedures, teams and responsibility, values, engineering practices, knowledge building and Iterations / Sprints / Timeboxes. This comparison can help in understanding when to adopt  Scrum methodology or Learn. For me it depends upon the need of the organization and its nature of projects. In some cases where quick results are needed scrum is more useful but when it comes to product improvement lean is a suitable choice. It’s a common practice to combine scrum and lean by extending scrum framework and using the lean principles in organizations so that they can enjoy the benefits of both methodologies.

Following is my presentation, which talks about the similarities and differences between these two methodologies, I hope you will find it interesting.

Exclusive demonstration of Telenor weblounge

Technology, Telenor, blog, life 2 Comments »

webloungelogoBloggers Gathering turns out to be the exclusive demonstration of Telenor weblounge. Miscommunication or misunderstanding whatever it was, it provided me the opportunity to meet some of my old friends.

The presentation was about to end when I entered in the meeting room, and it was about Telenor new feature Weblounge[Surprise for me]. As far as I understood Weblounge is a web interface for customers to manage their data. User does not have to go to Telenor customer service centers anymore, almost everything can be done via Internet.  The gentleman on the presentation also demonstrated how users can control their data via web. According to him it was realtime system but it looked more like an online system to me.

So whats new in weblounge?

Right now in Pakistan no telecom company is providing the web interface so that their customer can fully control their data. Telenor Weblounge will provide customers to control their data.

Weblounge is for both postpaid and prepaid customers.

You can purchase a number of your choice from the web and SIM will be delivered within 48 hours.

You can shift from any other network to Telenor, make payments online or subscribe for exciting add-ons, special offers and value added services and many more by using this feature.

Telenor does not stop here, as told by the presenter It is phase one… there are also phase two and three.

Weblounge is definitely a smart move by Telenor. It will not only save the time of their customers but also they would require less people in their customer service centers, managing data would be more easy. My only concern is security, if their servers are compromised than this would be a catastrophe for Telenor.

I am excited and waiting for more details, as soon as I get them I will definitely share.
